Diana Carmichael Pewter Tableware

The forms and textures of the extraordinary continent of Africa have greatly influenced designer Diana Carmichael. Her ability to capture the elusive African spirit in her contemporary pewter tableware designs comes from "having lived in Africa all my life and experiencing daily the natural beauty of the African sub-continent and its people."

Despite humble beginnings, the production of a single designer teaspoon has grown into a comprehensive tableware range that meets the needs of a sophisticated global clientele. Diana's inspiration, determination and technical expertise have made her the most exclusive pewter designer brand in South Africa, providing fair and stable employment for local South Africans.

While each piece is hand-molded in a casting process that fuses it with the stainless steel utensil, the real work occurs in the finishing of the product. Using traditional methods, the artists hand-finish each piece in five stages—a process that requires a high degree of skill and the finest attention to detail. In the end, each piece has a special exclusive nature and a superb level of craftsmanship.

Diana Carmichael pewter is lead-free and oxidizes more slowly than traditional pewter. Like silver, these pieces should not go into the dishwasher; however, unlike silver, they are relatively easy to care for, requiring occasional buffing to bring out their remarkable lustrous shine.
